Melissa had every excuse in the world to give up.
When I met her last Fall, she told me the person she saw in the mirror wasn’t who she truly was.
But a busy job that involved lots of travel as well as what she described as an addiction to sugar caused her to neglect her healthy habits and left her feeling unlike her true self.
By the New Year, Melissa had put a good amount of effort into working out more, moving daily and eating right. She was starting to feel better and feeling truly excited about the year ahead and what she could accomplish.
Right as Melissa was gaining such good momentum, she was hit with a family emergency that put nearly everything else in her life on hold.
Even though this nurse had others to care for during the next few months, she did not stop taking care of herself too.
Melissa discovered the Paleo eating style and removed sugar from her diet. She was mindful with portion control and deliberate in her choices. She looked at food as something to nourish her body and keep her feeling strong and capable so she could be the care giver she needed to be.
She says she felt mentally sharper and stronger. The pounds started to come off.
Melissa is down 25 pounds, 18 inches and dropped her body fat 4%. She’s lost four inches in both her waist and hips.
This vibrant spirit shines even more brightly now that she’s feeling good in her skin and recognizes the person she sees in the mirror.
Developing healthy habits and using food as fuel and nourishment rather than comfort truly helped Melissa change in her life in ways that go well beyond a scale. She’s come through a challenging time feeling inspired, hopeful and strong.
When she could have thrown in the towel and given up, Melissa pushed through and found herself on a path she wasn’t even expecting. Her physical transformation is surely impressive, but her inner journey is even more inspiring.
