To be clear, not all carbs are bad.
There are lots of great carbs, such as vegetables, sweet potatoes, oats and so on. But we Americans, we tend to get into trouble because not only do we eat too many carbs, we often overdo it with the “bad” ones, like muffins, breads, and pizza dough.
You feel, me, right?
As Football Season rolls in, especially here in the midwest, people will be cheering on their teams (Go Bucks!!) and dipping more than a few tortilla chips in dip while sipping on an ice cold beer.
Sounds like a great Saturday afternoon, unless, of course, you’re trying to eat healthy, maybe lose weight and for sure cut back on your carbohydrate intake.
Tailgate parties are not the place you typically expect to find anything “diet friendly” or even nutritious. But that doesn’t mean you have to stay home or starve.
Here are some tips for a healthy-ish and lower-carb tailgate.
Dip with veggies. Go for guac or salsa or even the queso but rather than scooping with chips, crackers or bread use carrots and celery instead.
Banish the bun. Brats, burgers and hot dogs abound but there’s no need to put them inside a carb and calorie-heavy bun. Wrap it in lettuce for fun!
Make your “cold brew” caffeinated. Skip the beer and alcohol and have an iced coffee to sip on. Not only will you feel better without the hangover but you can channel that extra energy to cheering.
Say no way to sugary treats. This one is tough but you can do it! Stay away from the brownies, cookies and cakes. Just a taste is all it takes to unleash the beast and make it hard to stop.
Expect to face plenty of temptation at your tailgate party, but stay strong! Stick to your guns and avoid the heavy carbs with these tips and tricks.
You’ll not only look good you’ll feel great and be one step closer to reaching your goals.
